Thermostat's clean but not responding

Does anyone know how the Holley thermostat works? I've had mine soaking in vinegar for a couple days but still doen't open in boiling water.

I wonder what is the actuator in this system. Is it relying on expansion/contraction of a solid? Gas pressure?

I see a small crack in the bottom section. See photo. Think this might be the problem?

i would think that you need the diaphragm and springs attached to visualize the mechanism. I haven't tried it yet with the late model, but others have claimed you can see it open. A little research speaks of a wax pellet which actually melts and lets the piston move. maybe your crack seeped out the wax, so it is stuck in one position...

Cool t-stat

Depending on what you're wanting to do, you can run without it.
Might be preferable if you're RWC. If you're rebuilding to spec then your goal may be different.

You've probably already seen this post but Mo's post (#3) might offer you an option. I run w/o one, but am also RWC.
