What kind of paint to use on the engine block?

    Hi All,

Does it matter what kind of paint to use when touching up the engine block?

It looks like I'll have to use the MMI cooling plate stud kit to fix my pesky leak after all. The gasket goop fix wouldn't hold back the water pressure.

As long as I have the alternator and plate off, I may as well scrap the bit of rust and touch it up before replacing the parts.

Is standard spray enamel fine? Maybe rustoleum?

My engine block color is that pastel green color (mental institution green). Does anybody know the official name? Does West Marine carry it?

    Thanks!

You want engine block paint. Resists the high temps. Stuff like this:

    Bronze paint

Rick the engine doesn't really get hot so you don't really need the high temp stuff. I have been using a can of rustoleum for years. I can hit the rust sots with a wire brush and touch it up anytime I need to.
