Tsunami...no danger to N. Calif.
We have a Tsunami alert here in California. I prepared to take Geronimo out of the marina, and ride her out in deeper water. Check the tides, and we will have a low tide at the time we are to be hit. I see no danger to my little ship...leaving her in marina.

I checked into the Harbor Master's office at Fortman Marina (Alameda, CA) this morning to see what their take on the Tsunami alert and any anticipated precautions boat owners should take. Happy to report nothing eventful happened, just a slightly more of a raise and fall in the water levels and of course a bit swifter current.

It sounds like coastal harbors outside of estuaries have been more strongly affected:

Just spoke to a very close friend of mine in Oarai.
Sadly, they lost everything. Thankfully, they are safe. Quite a tragedy...

No issues on West Coast of Canada either. Tsunami alert this morning with some rise in water levels recorded at 10 feet, but no damage. Saw some pictures of marinas in USA, California I believe that weren't quite so lucky. Terrible thing for those folks in Japan.

Maybe I'm a nervous sort but the very serious nuclear reactor problems combined with the jet stream that pretty much funnels everything to California has me concerned.

Why is the US sending help for the reactor by ship? It is overheated, and their sending a new cooler for the reactor by ship?...smart.

Tsumani induced current Northern West Coast
I heard on the news this morning that the Northern part of the west coast
washington, oregon? had a problem with current due to a 2 ft surge. At least one person lost their life by being on in this very strong Tsumani created current. Anyone have additional details on this? Regards Art |

The 25 year old who was washed off his perch had precariously positioned himself to take pictures ignoring the warning of local authorities. Sad that it happened but he's been awarded this year's first Darwin Award.
Three others found themselves in the same predicament for the same reason but they were able to get back to shore either on their own or by rescue.
