New use for Marvel Mystery Oil

I removed some bolts from my boat and they were covered with old silicone sealant. I put them in a container and covered them with MMO, and to my surprise, within about 15 to 30 minutes, the bolts were clean or at least the remaining silicone sealant was very easy to remove.

I thought that this might be useful information for someone.

    Very useful.

There must be some solvent in MMO(?)
Much like the homemade cocktail of ATF and acetone that some of our contributors swear by.

I have to check, but last year our local Dollar Store had MMO for $3.50 or so

Maybe MMO is really 49/49 Acetone/ATF with 2% sweet smelling stuff! (this is a joke..I have no idea.)

Found my bottle today finally (gotta love putting it in a special place and forgetting where that is ). Few tsp in each plug hole and hand cranked the engine. Phew, that done and engine is ready for sleep.

Marvel Mystery Oil is a product of the Marvel Oil Company, founded by Burt Pierce in 1923. It is used as a fuel additive, oil additive, corrosion inhibitor, penetrating oil, and transmission leak stopper and seal relubricator.

It is composed primarily of petroleum distillates, including mineral oil (60-100%), mineral spirits {10-30%}, tricresyl phosphate (an antiwear and extreme pressure additive in lubricants, 0.1-1.0%), ortho dichlorobenzene (a softening and removing agent for carbon-based contamination on metal surfaces, 0.1-1.0%), and para dichlorobenzene (a precursor used in the production of chemically and thermally resistant polymers, <0.1%).

Anyone have a source for MMO near Vancouver?

                  Running low.

                    Hi Marty

I ordered a case of 6 from Costco in Canada. They do not carry it in the store but you order online and delivery is free.

                    About $60 I recall.
