Success !!

Well, after over 20 years of sitting on the hard, the little A4 in our C&C Corvette came to life yesterday. WOOOOO HOOOOO !!
Thank you all for your advice and support. I've been lurking on here for the past couple of years as I've worked towards getting this boat squared away, and posting occasionally when I had some questions.
This is a wonderful forum and I cannot thank you enough.
The engine started and ran very well, and settled into a nice purr of an idle.
After launch (please God...soon..) I intend to run the engine under load for some time at the dock, double check timing and change the oil. I'll think I'll also put a dose of MMO in the first tank of gas.
Any other tips on running this thing after such a long lay up? From where the boat is to be launched I've got about a 5 hr. motor down a narrow river with a fair amount of current before I can step the rig. So I really NEED the engine to be 100%.
THANKS AGAIN !

tangroa, "gude gneus" for sure!!!!!!

Just run the beastie and check on her vitals once in a while. Treak her well and visa versa shall prevail.

Have you flushed her?

T,

Have you done a good flush and backflush? I have not followed your rebuild so maybe this old news. If not, then flush and backflush the cooling system, block and manifold. Use standard garden hose and pressure, do NOT flush thru your water pump, you must work downstream of the water pump. There are varying thoughts on whether you should use muriatic acid and / or vinegar before your flush. I used muriatic acid and let it sit 10 minutes after my boat sat on the hard for 2+ years. She started right up and idled well, but overheated very quickly underload. Culprit was debris at the aft exit of the manifold - the experts here know this symptom and condition only too well, painful learning lesson for me.

Congrats on the rebuild and getting her running again!

Keep an eye on the packing gland for awhile.
Also if you seem to have no power but the engine seems normal the shifter\trany may need adjustment.
Congrats on getting the boat squared away.

TRUE GRIT
