Do you fix things that are not broken?

I was wondering if I am the only one that does stuff to the engine that isn't really needed?
I sometimes get in an experimental mood and add things just to see what happens or if they look cool and sometimes change my mind if I get too much of a wiring or plumbing maze.
I have collected all the parts for dual coil ignition bit by bit, but haven't got around to actually setting it up. I don't need it, the engine runs fine as-is. It just interests me to make it work.

What, OCD??

Oh yeah...I'm like that with most things...always looking to improve things that matter and I have to say I don't sweat other things. Not only engine related but other things as well.

a few examples:
-rigging...I don't fool around with it...in doubt, replace.
-backup navigation system on boat, epirb, double the fire extinguisher requirement,...I could go on and on.
-my truck... transmission cooler on a 1500 4x4 Yukon XL to tow 30000 lbs...or for a class A motor home. Transmission mostly fail from overheating so limit the chances of that weak link....
-tires on cars, Yukon, Taurus and Outback...all michelin summer tires, always good winter tires in winter...but not michelins because they under preform in real conditions.
-undercoating vehicles yearly
-trailer made for boat so I can haul it myself if a storm comes through.
-own generator system in garage to power my place in case of power outage...runs everything.
-spare engine for boat, and another spare block.
-tools everywhere.
I'm the only guy around here I know that's like me.

Oh yeah, after purchasing my boat I replaced some components because I didn't know their history, electric fuel pump and coil for example. Both were working fine at the time of replacement but were of unknown age. Same thing with potable water pump, bilge pumps, etc.

Then there was a replacement just because. The very first thing I bought for the boat was a new head (not the one on the engine). The original worked fine but y'know . . . . . ?
