Water in the carburator & hesitation
I have new fuel tank, hoses, primary and polishing filters. The carburator and fuel filter is what was on the boat. I have disassembled and cleaned the carburator per the Moyer book. The fuel pump seems to work fine and is able to prime the entire system on its own - so I figure it is good to go. I have two problems that I need some advice on, please.
I found a small amount of water in the carburetor bowl yesterday. Since the primary filter is brand new, I can't understand where it came from. I took apart the primary and put it back to together and the engine ran fine after. Is it possible that the filter is faulty? How else could water get in the bowl if the filter is not faulty or maybe assembled incorrectly - although it is not a complex piece of equipment The other problem is that i have finally got the engine to run at a good (although a bit fast) idle and can shift into forward and reverse without dying but when I move the throttle the engine's first response is to die but if i play with the throttle, I can get it to reve pretty good most of the time. What would cause the engine to want to die for the first little bit of throttle? Even though all but the fuel pump is brand new, I have still been getting some crud in the carburator so I have taken it apart and cleaned it a few times. Can crud be causing this problem? If so, any thoughts as to where the crud is coming from? Your help is always very much appreciated - thank you. Water?
Avi, is the filter a water separator type? If not it won't catch the water.

be sure and check the fuel tank overflow and vent screen .Is it facing up and catching rain water? I speak from experience. fair winds adab

It is a water seperating filter.

Avi,
Check the seal on your fuel filler cap. There's supposed to be an O-ring there, but I've seen them get brittle, break, and disappear. Al |
