Prop Size
I have a 1982 Catalina 30 with an Atomic 4. What would you recommend for a two blade fixed prop? I bought a used 12x9 that is supposed to be correct but I think it will be too tall.

I think you'll find a 12 X 9 prop to be too large in pitch. If you prefer a two blade prop, I'd stick with a 12 X 6 or 12 X 7. The decision comes down to how aggressive you plan to be in terms of staying out of heavy weather. The 12 X 7 will be a little more comfortable during calm seas, while the 12 X 6 will allow you to reach a higher point on your power curve when the seas get a bit high.
That being said, have you considered the Indigo Electronics three blade 10 X 7.2 prop? They are reported to work very well on a Catalina 30. You might check it out on their website. Don |
