I now have a new Moyer A4 hand crank

Can an A4 be started with a hand crank...if the battery is dead?

Be sure to double check the Moyer catalog and be sure that you have
a starting crank, not the other style just used to turn over a non running
engine to find TDC. The starting crank should have a tapered edge to allow
it to release. Also, when using a starting crank be sure NOT to curl the
thumb around the handle lest you break your hand in case of backfire.
Others have suggested making sure the choke is pulled out as well.

Regards

Thank's Mates; checked, and it is a starter crank. I watched a video on You Tube, "How to hand start an A4. The guy starts the engine in half a turn...and he talked about the thumb. I can't wait to try this thing out.

Thumbs up

domenic..I picked one up too. - I really bought it for turning the engine over for adjusting the valves, but I have found that it is great for MMO treatments, setting timing, etc..you can squirt in some MMO, turn her over and let her sit..no messing with starters and less hassle.

And, I should be able to start the motor if necessary. I haven't tried that one yet.

Thank's for the tips. I will use my NEW hand crank to set the timing.
