Atomic rebuild

Well my carport is a mess! This is my first post of probably many. I am attempting to rebuild a seized Atomic 4. So far I have pretty much stripped the block(still soaking those pistons).
Some broken and seized intake valves, a crack between those holes on the exhaust manifold side and still I persist!
I am not even sure it possible to make it run again but my approach to it is like Zen and the art of Atomic 4 maintenance.
I guess I'll have to order the manual.

Frank,

you are not only in the right place for online advice but if you let us know where your motor is some of the crew might be willing to drop by and help.

Better post some pictures as well : )

Mike

Question Crack argh!

Frank, first welcome to the Afourin Forum! Pics would help and please size them down to 6~800 pixels.
Now to the point, where's the crack and can you post a pic of it? This could determine if it is repairable or not. Or a better description of the area with the crack.
The rest is just money and labor.

Well maybe that block is beyond me! I'll post photos as soon as I find my cord.
A closer look has revealed that the a couple of valve seats are really corroded,
I still can't get the pistons out! I guess the next step is some wood and sledge.
I'll see what you guys think of the photos first.
I hail from Victoria BC.
My last boat was a Contessa 26 with a Lister Petter. And the one before that was a 28 Newport, which had the Atomic 4. I am currently without boat

Oddly enough there is two engines in my carport and one of them is the engine(not seized) out of the Newport. It found me again 10 years later.

I keep looking over at it... maybe that is the one I should be working on!

I think with that crack, that block might be done.

Although it *might* be possible for a talented and skilled welder to grind it back and weld it, welding cast iron is tricky. But there are ways and methods to make it work.

But I sure don't like the looks of that crack. That, combined with the apparent deep corrosion around the valve seats, etc., leads me to think it's toast. Those pics are a little hard to see real well, though.

Yes if the other one even turns over, it might be a much better canidate. This cracked one may be an organ doner—don't throw anything away 'til you finish one of them.

Lots of boats out there. ...but you knew that.

Crack looks like freezing damage in the water jacket ports.

Not good...salvage what you can.

Mechanical fuel pump? The diaphragm is breached, time for a rebuild or replacement.
