I'm all in
We have a Bristol 32with an atomic 4 engine and are located in South Portland Maine for the winter. Plan is to leave it in over the winter. Runs well although the past month have needed choke to keep from stalling. I removed the carburetor yesterday with plans to rebuild today. Never done this before although I here it is pretty straight forward.
I also get some exhaust smoke out the oil filler cap from time to time. Plan to do a compression test later this fall. May be facing a rebuild this winter. Still runs great for the most part. Tony |

Carb rebuild should definately help with the stalling issue. Personally, I keep a spare carb aboard, rebuilt and ready to go.
Cabin smoke is a sign of worn oil rings (the lower ones) - a compression test may not tell you much, as the upper rings may be OK. What's the history on this engine - ever had new rings? |

As you take the carb apart refer to the exploded parts diagram.

Two words of advice:
1. The Indigo PCV system will keep blowby out of the cabin. 2. Eventually carbs get too bad to rebuild. If a rebuild/clean doesn't do it, bite the bullet and get Moyer to send you a new one. BTDT |

Do you have the MMI Manual? It's a must if you own an A4.
Also, you may want to view the carb rebuild video Easily worth the 12 bucks.

Im suspicious of the "smoke out the filler pipe". If you just saw this develop at the same time as the carb problem, then they may be related. For instance, running with partial coke could be too much gas is washing oil off the cylinder walls and spoiling the normal combustion by causing rich mixture and thus smoke in exhaust. Blowby in crankcase is reflecting that.
Just a thought. Russ.
