    Atomic 4 Direct Transmission

My Atomic 4 direct transmission makes excesive noice when in forward. Reverse is fine. I would like to see a detailed drawing of the transmission to determine what could be wrong. Anyone knows where I can get such drawing ? Or ideas what could be the source of the high noice.

Thanks for your responses. I'll keep looking for an unswer to my problem.
Yesterday I push the transmission lever further forward and while I hold it in that position, the ratle noice stops. Any new ideas?

Don't miss Pdf attached also, it's a nice drawing, but I can't remember where I got it. Here maybe?
My apologies to Bill (webmaster) if these are redundant to other resources on this site.

The Mmi video on this subject is worth it too.

Sounds very strange, as the transmission is essentially a straight through connection in forward, with the whole assembly clamped together and rotating in unison.

Its in reverse that there are gears rotating and it always makes a lot more noise that way.

Just a quick clarification that I hope is helpful - it's not really so much of a "transmission" as it is a clutch. Being that it is a "direct" drive, there is no set of gears to "transmit" the power from the engine (at least in forward). Instead, when you shift the lever to engage forward, all you're doing is engaging a clutch, which makes the prop shaft rotate as one with the crankshaft of the engine.

The clutch assembly houses a set of planetary gears, which enable reverse. I've always been impressed with the genius of the design - it is elegant in its relative simplicity.

Are you absolutely sure the noise is coming from the drive assembly? Make sure you're isolating where the noise actually is coming from.

What kind of noise is it? A rattle? A thump? A whine? A screech? A moan? A groan?

I make a lot of those just getting up in the morning...

This will sound crazy, but you are running a right hand prop, right?
