Palmer and A4 Carb Problem

I have a problem I REALLY hope one of you Afourians can help me with. I recently acquired a 1970 Morgan 30. Unfortunately, it appears, it came with a Palmer 60 in it instead of the A4 that came in so many more of them.

I have no problem with gas engines and it ran fine when I got it, but I say unfortunately because the I need a new carb. I found a Zenith carb for the tractor motor that mine is based on, but the throttle linkage is on the wrong side and the bolt spacing is wrong.

I thought I was up a creek with no motor, but photos I find of A4 carbs look very much like mine. Anybody know if an A4 carb would fit on my P60? Can anybody tell me what the mounting bolt spacing is on an A4 carb is?

Thanks up front for your help.

I suspect the A-4 carb will be fine for your Palmer due to similar displacement and horsepower. That's an unqualified seat of the pants guess though. The carb guy around here is Dave Neptune, whatever he says should be taken as Gospel.

Flange bolt spacing is 2.27" center to center approx. Flange bolts are 5/16-18.

Please let us know how it works. I have no doubt the HP and CFM are close enough to work well, but I am curious about the flange and linkages.

The A-4 carb would work just fine. Get a base gasket for both to match them up to see easily if they are the same or not. Might need a bit of a touch up with a file for matching the "ports' and or mounting screws.

Does the Palmer allow the carb to be "facing" the other direction as far as clearance? Cobbling some linkage for the tractor carb if it can be reversed would not be a big deal. Just make sure it is not much bigger INSIDE TEH VENTURI as the stock A-4 carb is actually far bigger than necessary. The carb does not care which way it faces!!!

Funny enough the Palmer really is a tractor engine. I can't count the number of people who have told me the A4 is a tractor engine
