Magnetic ring for Ignitor ignition

The top of my Magnetic ring is broken and what appears to be a piece of metal is separated from the ring. Would this have an adverse effect of the running of the engine. I must have broken it while reinstalling.

Thanks,

Zack

Zack,

Unfortunately the small piece of metal is undoubtedly one of the four small magnetic strips that are spaced evenly around the diameter of the small black ring. Without each of those magnetic strips, the Ignitor will not be able to deliver a spark to each plug.

Orientation of magnetic ring

I am installing the ignitor upgrade and notice that there is no specific way to orient the magnetic ring. It can basically be put on in 4 different orientations. How does the ignitor know when to fire? Does it fire 4 times/revolution so it doesn't matter?

Moby

P.S. OK, I think I just answered my own question. The distributor shaft has 4 corners so that the contacts open 4 times so the ring must have 4 magnets. Therefore it does not matter which way you put it on. There must be a reed switch or a Hall Effect switch in the pickup.
