    smoking engine

This is a little off-topic, because my smoking motor is actually a single cylinder Kohler K301. It's about the same vintage and level of technology as my Atomic 4 though. It smokes pretty badly and will get an overhaul some day. On the other hand, since Marvel Mystery oil has been recommended as an almost magical cure to many ills, and since it seems to solve some Atomic 4 problems, I wanted to get an idea of what it could do for my Kohler. The theory I'm working under is that the oil control rings are gummed up from use and a couple years of sitting unused. Do I add MM oil to the oil and run the engine, or dump it on top of the piston to let it work, crank by hand, and then drain and replace the oil before starting? Is it even worth trying?

    Thanks,

    Jim

    Jim,

I'm not sure that there is a wrong way to apply Marvel Mystery Oil. I'd put a little "splash" in the gas, a couple squirts in the spark plug hole, and a couple ounces in the oil.
