    Replacing the hot section on a T30

    I have a 1974 Tartan 30 with an Atomic 4 engine. I don't want to tell you the entire sad and long story of how I have been nursing this along but the nursing has come to an end as the pipe broke apart on our last cruise. Actually the only thing holding it together and directing some of the exhaust out the pipe was the header wrap I applied a month or so ago.

    The old hot section was made of what looks like galvanized 1.25 or 1.5 pipe. a short section off the manifold then a 45 about 1.5 foot section then a T with a plug on the bottom, cant figure why a T vs a 90 then another foot or so up to the water lift muffler.

    I just sprayed down the manifold bolts with wd40 in prep of a project I am not looking forward to.

    Question, should this section be made from Galvanized pipe? seems a bad idea to me, cast iron manifold at one end and brass or bronze waterlift at the other end, Galvanized between seems like a weak link. What is the suggested material to build this exhaust section with?

    Also this section is VERY hot, even with the header wrap. possibly reduced raw water flow from 33 years of sucking up salt water?
