OPSS Oil Pressure Safety Switch for Fuel Pump

I was on a recent trip and started having fuel issues. Turned out (I believe) it was the OPSS because when I bypassed it the engine stall went completely away and we were able to pull into our new dock 1 1/2 days later. I have concerns about replacing that sensor because I'm afraid the small 1/8 tubing might be seized into the block and break off. Has anyone had issues with them seizing to the block and breaking off? How did you resolved the much bigger issue? Should I just leave things as they are (bypassed and tied to the ignition switch side of the coil) till I might have to remove the engine then do the change? What are your thoughts please?

I came out of the 1/8" NPT port on the flywheel end of the block with a length of grease fitting hose and connected this to a manifold I made. The manifold had the pressure sender, the OPSS, and a mechanical gauge. Hose and manifold were all from Home Depot.

I don't quite understand your OPSS installation. The"stock" installation is the OPSS is in a port in the block and wires are connected to it. No tubing is involved.

Anyway, here are some thoughts for your consideration - assuming you have the "stock" OPSS installation.

PBblaster with tapping, if possible, on the OPSS for a week. When you torque keep the wrench fully on the OPSS and be sure to apply force at a right angle to the OPSS. Rounding the OPSS is a big danger. I like a plain straight wrench for this because I have a better feel for what is going on at the business end of the wrench.

When you get the OPSS off you might consider a short nipple into the engine port with a 90 degree elbow on the end and then mounting the OPSS on the elbow. As I recall MMI sells a "kit" for this.

If nothing else works you can always tee off the port for the oil pressure sending unit. The OPSS goes on one leg of the tee and the oil pressure sending unit goes on the other leg.

Finally the forum does not advise on actions that are not in accordance with Coast Guard regulations. It's your call anyway. Just don't tell us about it.

Good luck.

My OPSS is never coming off
I went to remove it and discovered it quite well rounded off. I then grabbed the outer case and now it turns freely but doesn't turn the thread

The engine will have to come out to remove the dang thing, so I just gave up on it and hooked up a combo OPSS/alarm sensor at my remote oil filter.
