    Gear shifter key

I put in a rebuilt engine on the mounts of the old engine. In trying to install the gear shifter I found that the key for the rebuilt engine is on the opposite side of the last engine. How do I move this key from one side to another? I tried to pry it for a moment but was worried I'd warp it if I tried any harder, is it something that even comes out?

That's called a woodruff key and it will come out - if it has to. Might be a fight.
Why not just buy a new one and install it in the other groove?

      Hello ajgaines.

Yes, it should be possible to remove the key. If your key resembles mine, it is beveled on the side that is set into the shaft. Vice grips and penetrating oil may help. If the key is damaged, it can be replaced with a new one.

      Jack.

(I see my note crossed with Al's.)
