Atomic 4 Engine Replacement Parts

Well, I've finally hauled out my engine and found the reason the 3rd piston wasn't moving. The 3 piston slipped off the crank and busted through the block, leaving a huge hole there. If you're interested in any of the pieces, starter, crank, flywheel, alternator, distributor, electronic ignition module, spark plug wire set, water pump, hand crank, etc please let me know. They are all in perfect condition. I live in the Marina del Rey area but can ship out the parts that you need. Would like to get this done as soon as possible, so I could sell the whole thing to someone cheaply who wants to re-sell the broken down parts.
Thanks!
Cave Dog

PS I will post pictures once I figure out HOW on this website. :-)
I can email them to you directly if interested.

How did that happen? Did the connecting rod break? Or did the end cap fall off? Wow. I'd be interested to know how the rod "slipped off the crank". Yikes.

Welp

I'm planning on replacing the A4 with an outboard. I have a friend who has an extra mount, however my transom hangs HIGH out of the water. Don't have the money to get a Diesel A4. Maybe get a 10HP outboard from a buddy.
I believe the connecting rod broke, but I haven't removed the reversing gear, pistons, or flywheel yet or been able to get at the crank. I'll be doing that tomorrow.

Lightbulb Ouch!

Cave Dog, now we know why she wouldn't start! You may consider keeping the engine and eventually dropping it back in instead of parting it out.

I have used outboards many times on sailboats and was involve with ORCA for a while. I have done and seen many extensions on outbaord motors to drop the drive deeper into the water. I did an extension on my 15hp Evinrude on my E-27 and had no problems until it was really sloppy but int those conditions a reef ond small jib worked better and far more comfortable. Many of the older OMC engines are redilly adaptable to extensions and it isn't really that expensive to do.

Dave!

Dave:

Thanks so much for all the help you provided! I've learned alot pulling the engine and taking it apart, however never made it to pulling the crankshaft. I actually got a job with a person in San Pedro removing his engine for some quick cash!
Having learned so much about the Atomic 4, I'd really like to put a replacement in if I can get the money, but the quickest answer seems to be mounting an outboard.
If I get an adjustable mount, would I need the extension?

Thanks!!!

The extension AKA long shaft is highly recommended for sailboats even if
you get mounted low otherwise the prop will be out of the water in surf.
