    Battery locations

I am a Pearson 30 owner, 72/73. Previous owner wasn't sure on exact date. I'm curious on where others have located there batteries. I have one on the starboard side under the lazaret up by the bulkhead. The secound location is in the engine bay on the port side next to the stuffing box. But I'm not happy with this one because it blocks the access to the stuffing box. I'm curious about where others have located the batteries. Thanks.

az, You can really locate them any place you want, provided you are willing to do the re-wire.

I do not have a P-30..I have a C-30..the problem we ran into on Catalinas is that all the furniture and batteries were on the port side, so the boat listed to port. I moved the batteries to the stbd settee when I re-wired and it has helped.

It might depend on how much work you want to do.

My 1978 Pearson 30 has the batteries in the OEM position: the cockpit stbd sail locker, up against the back of the galley bulkhead in two plywood boxes mounted on a fiberglass foundation. Each box will hold up to a GP31 battery. Battery cables are very close to the battery selector switch. There's even room to mount a small start battery (I use a U1R 32Ah) This picture was taken before I bought the boat.

This position leaves adequate room for servicing the distributor, antifreeze pump, etc.
