Mystery Part?

I have a 1979 Sailboat with an Atomic 4 gas engine. While trying to get the thermostat housing off I broke a part that protrudes on the forward side of the engine. It almost looks like a spark plug and has a wire attached to the end. I have looked at some engine diagrams, but don't see that part. Can someone tell me what the part is and where I can get a new one?

It's probably the temperature gauge sending unit. I think these have to be matched to the actual gauge you have. Go to the catalog part of
www.moyermarine.com
and search for a new gauge/sending unit pair.
