    First question I have

My newport 28 has an A4 aboard, and I'm somewhat new to this boating thing. One question jumps into my head looking in my engine compartment.

Is the blower (in my case sitting above the gearbox) supposed to pull air *into* the compartment or push air *out* of the compartment? My engineering training says *OUT* not in. And in this case the hose is connected to the pull side of the blower, not the push side.

    Out

You are correct, it should suck air (usually from the carb side of the engine) out through a vent aft. Some find it useful to sniff the vent with the blower running before starting to ensure there are no gas fumes.
