A hello with an alternator issue
Hello to all!
I had purchased an Easterly sloop not too long ago and is time to begin replacing things. I wanted to update the alternator as I have already replaced the battery banks, so I had purchase the 55amp from Moyer with the belt, but I am having trouble clearing the plug wires on the distributor cap as the pully is coming into contact. It is the original mounting bracket and the head was rebuilt last year. I played around with it for a little while, but life obligations prevented me from investigating further. Has anyone experienced this before? Aloha nui loa. |

This is easily solved but must be done carefully. Please describe as accurately and candidly as possible your ignition timing experience and skills. Rotating the distributor so the plug wire posts clear the alternator pulley also includes repositioning the rotor and it's meshing gear. It's all about timing. We can walk you through it but it would help us to know more about you.
BTW, I'm old enough to get your forum name. White Fang was my favorite.

Easy process
sloopysails, do you have access to t timing lite? Does the engine run well? And have you checked the centrifugal advance?
Do you have a grease pencil or a piece of chalk? The process of re locating the position of the distributor is not difficult if you go one step at a time. Have you given thought to an EI upgrade? Could be a very good time to if it is in your plans. It beats messing with the points!!! Dave Neptune |

Sloopy-
As the boys have mentioned, this is easily fixed by a slight adjustment of the dizzy orientation that involves some timing. As Neil said... we can talk you thru it. I did this when I upgraded to the 55A alternator. Side note... This might also be a good time to discuss the ALTERNATOR TENSION ADJUSTER
