Power Loss in Forward
After sailing our 1969 Pearson 35 last weekend I had trouble with forward when we started motoring in. Everything went fine on the way out; then we sailed; I had engaged forward gear during the sail with the engine off. When we motored in to the mooring we experienced increased vibration in forward and could only run slightly above idle. Forward would engage but there was no transfer of power to the shaft as I increased power. The engine would not rev high in forward, vibration would increase if power was applied. The engine ran fine in neutral and I noticed no loss of power in reverse. Forward just did not seem to engage all the way. I went over the side and checked the prop and it was not fouled. Any ideas?

Ishmael,
I think I may have spoken to you this morning on this issue. If not, I suggest you remove the plugs to see if any of them look differently (as though you may have taken a bit of water back into the engine while sailing), do a quick thumb compression check, then reinstall the plugs and while pulling on the dock lines at close to your normal cruising RPM, remove the plug wires one at a time to see if the problem relates to any particular cylinder.
