Annapolis Sailboat Show

Will MMI be returning to the Annapolis Sailboat show this year?

It's next weekend.

Question Question

Hey Ed, are you planning on attending? If so would you stop and say howdy to a couple friends of mine working the show? Be a surprise to them and may be worth a chuckle or two.

Yeah, I'm going to be there Saturday. PM me your friends names and the booth(s) they'll be working at.

I just went through the exhibitors list and I didn't spot either Moyer Marine Inc or MMI listed. (Admin) Bill, is this just an oversight, or are you guys not returning this year??

Ken's word

I asked Ken@parts that very question a few days back. He said "corporate" still had not made the call on whether to go.

I will be there. Not too excited about seeing the new wide-beam boats, but always good to scour for assorted gadgets for my aging girl.

Whippet, you got it. I like to climb on the boats and check them out...but only if there is no line. I do not wait in line to get on a floating condo.

I was actually pretty intrigued by the Catalina 310 last year, but it was more than $100K. It doesn't have anything extra that my boat doesn't have, except maybe A/C when plugged into the dock.

I have friends from our club that are driving to Annapolis this coming week and spending 4 days kicking around the boat show. One is in the market for a good used boat and Annapolis is a good spot to pick one up....the others are sort of going along for the drive and may pick up a thing or two as they look through.

MO: That reminds me of a few trips in school. One of the guys kind-of knew a girl at a collage miles away. That was all the reason we needed. Load up the Vega with oil, for the car, beer and sleeping bags for us and off we go.
Thanks for reminding me of simpler times.

We decided not to attend the Annapolis show this year, Ed. Last year's experience was great fun, but it was an enormous undertaking for a company of our size.

We'll see about next year.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry to hear you won't be there.

Over the years I've run a number of booths at conventions and such, and I realize how much effort is involved. And I understand that there has to be some way to make it economically justifiable, either in short-term sales, or production of enough high-quality leads.

At the risk of triggering another trip down the rabit hole into wonderland , maybe the brain-trust out there in forum-land can offer suggestions on ways to either raise money or do cost-effective sales and marketing. I'm sure we'll get lots of chaff, but who knows? There might be one or two grains of wheat in there!

Ed, I don't know of anyone with an A4 that doesn't know of Don Moyer. Donny Webster was / is a guru up here and I'm sure those two had to know each other as well.

We have a new boat at the club that came in last week. All of the boats will be coming out for winter in about 3 weeks and then it's time to winterize everything. This particular guy came up to me and said he'd like to put EI on his A4 and I told him to order it up from Ken at MMI and I'll put it in for him when the boats come out. He had already heard of MMI as soon as I said it...so, it's not like people don't know.

Part of the problem is that there are lots of parts available from Napa etc. That's why I put a little note under all my posts because I know....people come here to figure out what is going on then go buy parts elsewhere and fix it. There are times I wouldn't mind that so much; someone is "giving" you the part or you really need to take just anything to get mobile on a trip or something. But if the boat is sitting on the marina or mooring for a week...well, I think they should contribute to the cause and buy the parts off MMI...that's how I see it.

I don't mind helping people that support MMI and the forum...not a bit.
