Blasting rusted spare parts
I have bought spare A4 engine for parts. I am pretty happy camper because I only paid $50 for it. However, since they sat outside for a while at PO house, they have rusted up.
I have an access the place with a glass bead blasting cabinet. I was considering to use a glass bead blaster to clean those parts and paint/lube/pack them. It is obvious that inside of the cylinders, starter, distributor and alternator shouldn't be blasted. However, I am not sure what other areas/parts on the engine I should spare of blasting? Thank you |

Blasting
Don't blast "mated surfaces" gasketed or otherwise. Also stay clear of any dowel pin locating holes as well.

better to keep the sand or glass out of oil passages than to have to clean it out later.
