    copper tube to Oil Gauge

Not at the boat and wanting to buy the copper tube to replace old one from the engine oil port to the mechanical oil pressure gauge. Can anyone remind me the size copper tube I need, as well as new fittings to connect at both ends?

    Thank you!

Assume you mean the standard oil pressure port behind the flywheel flange. It's 1/8" NPT nipple x 1.5" long. Plus you usually need a 1/8" NPT female to female coupling to mate to the male sender.

      Marty,
The copper tube has to match the fittings you have - probably 1/8" or 3/16" OD. The installs that I've seen use flareless fittings to attach the tubing. There's a copper ring (tapered) that fits over the tubing, then there's a nut that screws to the body of the fitting and compresses the ring (one time use). The other end of the fitting is 1/8" NPT at the engine, and probably 1/8" NPT at the gauge.
Don't use plastic tubing, use copper.

          Outcome of fix

          Marty,
Am curious how you decided to address the replacement of the oil pressure sender attachment/copper tube/fittings issue.

            on the block

I have the direct read gauge right on the block...no copper tube. Oil pressure readings are good....about 50 lbs warmed up. We've had good wind this summer, so haven't run the engine long enough for a really long, hot - in gear - test.

Planning to do the copper tube in the fall after sailing season.

            Thanks for asking!

VDO Kit for most any oil pressure tubing to sensor

              Marty,

If you have not yet bought your supplies for the project, FYI, I noticed that VDO has a kit with what looks like flare fittings, 1/8" adapters and 6 ft of copper tubing for up to 400 PSI that could be had for about $15 and that looks like it would do the job. Google "VDO 150-856 Copper". This can be used for non-VDO products.
