Another lost forward retaining pin
Hi,
I’m rarely post but I need to stop and think a minute before proceeding. This has been covered before but here goes. Lost my ability to get into either forward or reverse and discovered the forward retaining pin had backed out and is now in the sump somewhere. I’ve spent sometime trying to retrieve it and during the process the end came of my flexible magnet. So now I have 2 pieces of metal in the sump. I have a replacement retaining pin coming but need to motor up to about 90 Minutes to where I will have the boat pulled and stored in a week so I don’t have time to remove the reversing gear to get in deeper. Am I crazy to go for it and motor with the stuff in the oil pan to get the boat on the hard? Thank for any opinion Chris |

Hi, There is certainly enough room under the clutch pack that those pieces should not pose a problem. The rotating parts in that area are well above the bottom of the pan. I have a feeling that the adjusting screw, along with the lock washer and the magnet will "nestle" together comfortably. Actually, I have a magnetic rod, that is part of the oil pump-out plug, that picks up a considerable amount of "magnetic sludge" between oil changes. If it were my engine, I'd simply replace the adjustment locking screw, along with a new lock washer and consider it fixed,
