Here is my "gal" in our winter nest. I am removing loose paint and washing with spiritus minerales prior to priming. All of the parts missing in this pic are already painted except the alt, which I am leaving original. I am also leaving most of the original paint on. It seems to me that the original paint, in good shape, is the best primer. That is why I am not using acetone as it is pretty effective at removing the paint
Anyone know of a source for the Universal metallic sticker that has the serial nr, etc on it? The serial is stamped on the block, fwd, but the sticker is classier.
To remove the engine:
After disconnecting the various systems and removing the mounting bolts I slid a 2 x 10 x 8 ft pine board under the engine and, using a short 6" wood block under the board on the cabin sole forward of the engine compartment as a fulcrum and the weight of a friend on the forward end, the A4 was lifted off the engine bed and since it was now on a downward slope I could easily pull it forward by sliding it on the board to a spot under the companionway. It took less time to do than it is to write about it. A local excavator used a Bobcat with a fork attachment to get the A4 up and out of the boat and into my pick-up.
I used a rope down through and around the bottom and up through the mounting holes in the oil pan as a sling.
I didn't use the lifting eye because it didn't feel right. I don't use the eyebolt embedded in the 900 lb lead keel to lift the CD "Typhoon" either. I believe CD used it to put the lead in place, not to lift the entire 2000 lb boat. I know guys that do it, though.
