How to remove Flame Arrestor

My carburator has just recently been rebuilt and the engine now struggles to start cold, though once started it runs smoothly. I'm thinking either the fuel mixture is set too lean or the choke does not fully open the carb valve when pulled full out. I can easily set the fuel mix but to check the carb valve with choke on/off I need to remove the complete flame arrestor unit entirely, and there begs the question - how do you do that?
