Inline cooling water exhaust entry fitting
Don,
I just purchased a the brass "Inline Cooling Water Exhaust Entry Fitting" from your shop. I noticed my hose coming for the anti-siphon valve into the exhaust fitting is 3/4" and the piece I got from MMI has a hose outlet of just 1/2". Is 1/2" enough for the anti-siphon? If so, do you recommed that I reduce my hose down to 1/2" so that it will fit the new fitting I just got? Paul,
Half inch water hose is quite standard for discharging engine cooling water to the exhaust system on raw water cooled engines. On fresh water cooled engines the hose size is frequently 5/8". We are currently attempting to find hose barb by hose barb fittings of various sizes to add to our brass fitting selection in our online catalog to facilitate changing from different hose sizes (1/2" to 5/8" and perhaps 1/2" to 3/4"). In the meantime, if you can easily convert to 1/2" hose between the anti siphon valve and the inline exhaust fitting, that's what I'd do. Don |

Engine Cooling Parts
Don,
Will any marine plastic fitting be strong or good enough for the raw water exhaust? I was thinking of using Forespar's Marelon fitting for reducing fittings. What do you think? Also, what do you think about through-hull discharge anti-siphon? I have hear that this method would require virtually no maintance. The Marlelon fittings should be OK.
I'm not sure what you mean by "through-hull discharge anti-siphon". Don |

Using a plastic vented loop, but instead of placing a vent cap assembly Forespar makes a fitting that connects to the top of the vented loop that allow you to attach a hose and vent to the outside of the hull.
I have also heard people venting to the bilge or to the galley sink, but I like to explore the idea of venting to the outside hull. I hope this makes more sense. ________ The Cliff Condo Last edited by macplee; 09-05-2011 at 09:58 AM. |

I see no problem with routing the vent line itself overboard as long as it doesn't interfere with the function of the valve.
