accidentally reversed battery leads

I was replacing a fresh water pump and had to remove batteries to get to the pump. When I hooked up again I inadvertently reversed battery leads for a couple minutes. Then Realized my error when i smelled an acrid electrical burning smell.
What damage have I done?

First welcome to the MMI Afourian Forum.

That smell was probably some insulation burning somewhere. You will need to find where and replace or at least tape over to insulate. Sniff around and peek where wires are bundled together.

This needs to be fixed/patched as a short can cause a fire if all electrical sources are not protected by fusses or breakers. Hopefully you do not have any fused together or about to do so~be very carefull electrical shorts and fire are very bad things in a BOAT.
