    Engine instrument panel replacement

A year ago, probably longer ago, there was a thread about replacing the Formica engine instrument panel that was faded and falling apart. I took mine apart, measured...and then spent a year trying to find a replacement. I had this made in a laser engraver. The logo and words are reversed engraved on the back side, painted lue to match our boat hull, then sprayed white. The acrylic protects the image and white, while maintaining a high gloss finish. Very reasonable based on what I could find, and old be custom made. If your interested....

I started with the idea of creating a bronze name plate like Cape Dory's. Don't remember if I tok a image from the web or scanned in the image original brochure. Either way laser engravers use a line outline bit map file. It very cool, the laser cuts and engraves. If interested, let me know.

Beautiful work Scuppers. I noticed you had the wisdom not to countersink the screw holes in the corners too.

Cost...75 dollars for acrylic with holes copied from provided template. 100 for holes and text, 125 for holes, text and line art graphic.

                Hey Scuppers,
Based on your description I'm thinking not but was the recess pocket part of the deal??

The photo that I posted is from our Ericson. I could make one if you need?

No, no need. I was trying to confirm the project was the flat acrylic instrument deck and not the recessed pocket too. That looked OEM to me. Your flat panel is nicer than OEM.

Thanks, a shop teacher doesn't get much praise. My current pet project is casting portholes. The panels can be bigger if needed. Eventually I plan to do the electrical panel the same way.

I think what Neil is asking you, is if the manufactured FLAT portion of the panel (see pic) is the piece that cost the $$?
Assuming that the other part of the panel (recessed) was already made?

Yes just the flat panel is the project. Every year I would read posts about needing to replace the instrument panel. In making a sign for something else I saw a solution that won't fall apart, could be customized and could done for less than what was being suggested. Besides I like making things.
