    Noise in drive train

I have always had a drive train noise in my 1978 Catalina 30. This summer I found the prop shaft coupling was worn and had a new prop shaft and coupling installed. The old drive shaft had severe wear at the keyway. After installing the new shaft and coupling, the drive train noise increased. Last Friday after running about 10 minutes the engine quit dead. I set sail and then shifted to neutral and restarted the engine. It started and idled normally, but as I shifted it into gear it stalled again. I sailed back to the dock. This morning, after two very helpful conversations with Don, I disassembled the rear of the transmission and found that the thrust bearing had disintegrated.

    RE: Drive train noise

Is the engine in alignment with the shaft? If it was seriously misaligned it could cause the coupling failures and place a load on the engine. It would have to be way out though.
