Fuel line shut-off valve (faulty)

Hello everyone,

After having had leaking issues with two off-the-shelf so-called fuel shut-off valves, I'd like to cut to the chase and just ask: what is a reliable valve I can order on the web to be rid of my problems (and potential catastrophic danger)?

Thanks,
Kelly

If you've had two failures with off the shelf valves you need to be buying off a different shelf. The complication of recommendations in this case is their availability in France.

McMaster-Carr has them and in marine grade, item #7910K85 (female-female) or 7910K82 (male-female).

I agree with Neil that two off-the-shelf failures equal a new supplier!

Anyway, I've had a Moeller shut-off on my fuel system for over 5 years with no issue. Available online at Hamilton.

Not sure of the shipping to France issues (if any)
IF getting it shipped to you there is an issue, PM me and I can buy it and ship to you or something like that...

Exclamation Valves

I found some nice all stainless 1/8" ball valves a while back at ACE Hdwr. I bought a dozen of them when I found them. Used some of them on fuel and they have not leaked yet and it has been at least 6 years now for those valves.

Note some older gas valves were tapered and after setting closing or adjusting they needed to be seated by a light tap on the valves handle. Many of this type had a spring that was exposed to do the seating and they still often needed a tap to seal.

What does the brain trust know about these fellas:

Apparently this a fuel demand valve used on portable fuel tank systems to keep fuel from leaking from the tank unless under demand from the engine. I was toying with the idea of installing one of these vice a manual valve, but I'm not sure how well it will work and ABYC recommendations.

Here's the page from Attwood:

Is there a reason you're opposed to a "man-u-al" valve?
For me, I like KNOWING that the fuel is shut off when I leave the boat.
I think, with that valve, I'd always be wondering...

NOT designed for below decks

Anyway, I have NEVER had a fuel valve leak. I have bought a number over the years and just made sure they were stamped UL Approved.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll chase these down and see what I can come up with.

FWIW: the first leak came from the installed valve when I bought the boat- the second with a valve from the local chandler.

just a minute, you're in France. Was the second valve bought in France? Where did it leak? Was it a metric/imperial thread issue? Just a thought.
