Atomic four for sale:

I have a atomic four in very good condition;for sale, and I have rendered the updraft carburetor obsolete with a new system of vapor and or liquid propane. The system is in perfect running order. I ran a international search as to the reliability of this system and found there aren't any accidents involving propane world wide.

Distance precludes me from being a candidate for your engine but I'm very interested in the details of your propane conversion.

reply to questions about propane

I am not a expert of propane. Ask me questions and I will see if I can direct you.I also would send pictures.I was surprised to find that there already is made a carb for this engine strictly for propane. The kit was easy to install. These people have done this for two generations.Primarily their business is fleets of vehicles so as a result I am now in the process of converting my Toyota Land Cruiser to propane which I am told by a mechanics locally will give me 10 more miles to the gallon. This he does for a living at a dealership;Volvo.

How much fuel do you carry and where is the tank(s) located? How do you refuel?

Captain, I am William Or if you like Bill. What is your first name?
I have two tank types. One is Vapor the other is liquid.
Vapor tanks when full should not be stored on their sides;such a mistake would blow the release valve if there is expansion.
The liquid type tank can be stored on its side and upright.
The vapor tank that I have is not yet setup for long term access due to my personal limitations so I have both tanks in a upright position at the helm. Pictures are not yet loaded on my computer but on a C.D..
The range of use or time of use is not yet calculated. But I have used the vapor tank from the beginning of instillation. My wild guess is only in my mind. Therefore, I can only say I have had and used the vapor alone for a summer and winter to present time.I have not run out, yet, and I do not yet have a gauge on it, yet.The size of vapor tank is 8 gallons leaving room for expansion.
The liquid tank is larger;about 43 pounds.Aluminum.
But here is my long tern intention for tanks. I would buy fiberglass with the side view fill window 43 pounds or more. They are lighter and can be exterior mounted with universal fill fittings for international ports of call. I have seen this used for sailboats whose owners report a ready supply of propane available anywhere they end-up because of the fittings for filling.
I must now report that one of the primary reasons for propane use is the Hugh capacity for storage; without the constant headaches of gas and diesel .
Over the last years from 07 that I have had this boat the primary problems have been poor workmanship of the previous owner and his best mechanic;
Well known in this area of South Carolina. The other Hugh problems have to do with the engine itself. If you have not purchased a engine from Moyer marine; That person would be screwed for sure;as I have been left to my own devices to sort thing out from scratch.A crappy situation for sure.
Further I can not count the cost and time spent and lost that could be better spent. I hate updraft carbs!!! Thank you. Bill

Bill, I'm Neil

The topic of propane fuel has been discussed on the forum before and it's always interesting. Most times the talk includes questions of fuel storage and availability. Sorry to hear of the difficulties you've experienced courtesy of the P.O. and his hired gun. We've had a number of those stories too. In fact, I think we all have a story of our P.O. to tell.
