Bad Bearings
I have bad bearings in my newer style raw water pump. I have the new ones and new seals. Having trouble getting the bearings off the shaft and can't seem to find information or instructions on removing the bearings. Can anyone share a link to an instructional video or some good old fashioned advice?

Haven't done the job, so just a shot in the dark..
First I'd try a bearing puller. Try your local Harbor Freight. Check out their website - they have several. You're NOT trying to save the old bearings, so beating on the outer race to move the inner race is OK. Lacking a bearing puller... The ball bearings probably have shields that will have to be removed. After that, the cage that holds the balls can be removed. This will allow the balls to move to one side and be removed - leaving the inner race. At this point, I'd get out my Dremel tool and a diamond burr and cut a good notch in the inner race. It will come off! |

I have done that job both with an Oberdorfer and the Moyer MMI flange pump and if I remember correctly a hole just slightly bigger than the shaft a piece of wood and a hammer has done the job and drove the shaft out of the old bearing.

That only works if there's only one bearing on the shaft. If both came out on the shaft, they'll be seated against the central boss on the shaft. You'll need some way to support just one bearing as you pound the shaft through it. Perhaps a slot in some thin (~3/8") but stiff material, or a couple pieces of bar stock laid across the open jaws of a bench vise.
Easier to just use a cheap 3-arm gear puller. Harbor Freight is your friend.
