Gasket with fuel pump mounting bracket?

Hi -

I'd like to start off with a big thank you to the community; I'm a new boat owner and have been lurking on this forum for a couple of months -- the wealth of information is astounding. Thank you Don, and thank you to all community members who contributed.

The previous owner installed an electronic fuel pump using the Moyer mounting bracket (part number FPMP_03_45). Due to space difficulties, I decided to relocate the fuel pump to a bulkhead. While doing so, I removed the mounting bracket and noticed it had a gasket.

The gasket appears to be the original gasket that was used with the mechanical fuel pump. However, it does not match the mounting plate perfectly; there is a gap at the top and I believe there is a bit of a leak happening there. This seems similar to what another user encountered in http://www.moyermarineforum.com/foru...ead.php?t=4160 I think the gasket is the original gasket because it is identical to the black one in the catalog kit for rebuilding the mechanical fuel pump.

Per http://www.moyermarineforum.com/foru...38&postcount=3 it seems the bracket requires the blank which has a gasket. The catalog does mention a gasket for the blank but no picture of the gasket is provided.

I have a mounting bracket; do I need a blank plate?
If so, why does the mounting bracket need a gasket? The catalog mentions a gasket for the mounting bracket as well but no picture is provided.

If a blank plate isn't needed with the mounting bracket, is the gasket for the mounting bracket supposed to leave an opening at the top? I couldn't find a catalog item for just the mounting bracket gasket. If those are not sold individually, since we're just blocking off that opening, is using gasket making material to ensure a complete seal where the bracket mates the block an option? If so, which gasket making material is recommended?

Thanks!

Correct gasket

Sorry to reply to my own post but I wanted to close out the loop in case someone ever looks up the same issue.

I called Moyer Marine and spoke with Ken. The same gasket is used for the mechanical fuel pump and the electric pump mounting bracket. The fact there's an opening at the top indicates the gasket is installed incorrectly. (In my defense, I didn't install it this way - the previous owner did. ) It is also recommended to use Permatex Aviation Form-A-Gasket sealer on both sides of the gasket.

To answer the question about whether both a plate and a mounting bracket are needed, the answer is no:
