We left Oriental this morning around 7am and have made it up the Nuese and across the Pamlico to anchor up in Pungo Creek around 3:30 this afternoon. Although the weather turned a bit cold and fowl, the ride was great.

The motor sounded wonderful today and aside from a little hiccup that we are attributing to the coil possibly getting too hot, everything went well. At our next stop we'll be looking for another or a larger coil resistor.

Also the cooling on the motor is so efficient that we'll be altering a little plumbing when we get to Elizabeth City, I'll post pictures when we get there of the current set-up and what we do to modify it. Right now we're using a system based on the idea of preferential flow to help warm the engine as we are running without a thermostat and we are using the "Tom Thatch" modification for water flow through the manifold.

Also, at the Alligator River anchorage we moved the coil+ feed to the OPSS so the circuit now has the electric fuel pump and ignition together. Voltage at coil+ dropped to 10.75 and performance was satisfactory with cool coil.

Regarding the fuel pump and ignition modification, are you saying that the ignition wire + and the pump wire + are taken from the + of the battery in a bench test situation, or the key "on" terminal, in the boat?
Resulting in a cooler coil! What is OPSS?

Sorry I wasn't clear. What I meant is that the ignition switch now feeds the oil pressure safety switch (OPSS) and the switch feeds both coil+ and the electric fuel pump. Since the coil already has a .8 ohm external resistor, the voltage at coil+ tested at 10.75V.

I am glad we made this change when we did it would have been bad to loose the coil in the sound. The engine ran so smooth, motor sailing at hull speed just above idle to charge up batteries. It was an Ideal day to sail

Now today I am going for all new filters, I don't like to make more than one change at a time.
Also when this is complete we are looking at making a change to the raw water flow. Even when we recirculate it takes some time to heat up the engine but then when we give it more water it cools off to fast and runs to cold.

I am tempted to wait just for the reason that I am going to FW when we get the boat home.
I am sure I will have to remove some of this to do the FW system or maybe not... Could this still be of some value?.

I am guessing it won't hurt to run cool for a few days or so until we get here?

Thanks a lot for the fast reply. I like the concept of the OPSS turning on the pump and coil when it gets a few psi. My benched Atomic 4 will be back in the boat soon, with an OPSS for the first time. But can the switch handle that much electrical current over a long period of time? It would change my handling of the carb, once the starter is engaged.

Talking OPSS capacity

I can only report that on "Destiny" a single OPSS has been carrying coil, electric fuel pump and 800 GPH Rule baitwell style raw water pump for hundreds of hours without incident. The switch was replaced once because of external corrosion. I carry spares which are cheap and easy to change. The boys at NAPA will show you the spec sheet for OP 6624 or check BWD S383.

Smile nice pic

Another nice pic. You know, there used to be allot of those Grampian 26's around here. We had two in the club about 10 years ago but they have since been sold and went to different areas. I still see one every now and then.

Thanks for the photo Hanley

Stopping at the locks tied to the break wall was a great idea, with an Advance Auto right there I was a bit early on my first oil change on the new A4 but that's ok. When there is a place to get rid of the oil along the ICW one must take advantage. The oil was still pretty clean and I noticed it didn't burn or loose any oil it was still the same level on the dip stick... I was happy about that. Up to this point I haven't run the A4 too hard but have varied my rpm levels as I break it in.

We had a great run to Hampton, VA, except for the Gilmerton Bridge. We had to drift about an hour before it opened.

We left Hampton early, before first light and headed to Deltaville. It started as a nice morning but it got very sloppy by 2 in the afternoon when we arrived. Today was the first day I gave a bit more juice to the engine and was very pleased at the performance 1350 RPMs and hull speed with direct drive with the three blade Indigo prop.

We arrived and had the pleasure to meet Bill, It was a perfect afternoon swinging on the anchor and chatting.

So we leave out first light and head to Solomans Island.

@PT26, as they used to ask us when passing through the bridges at Daytona Beach: "What is your ultimate destination?"

Hopefully we'll have seen you up here in Solomons. If you see a boat named "Easy Button" that is what I was out racing on Wednesday night.

Thumbs up Hello!

Great meeting you & Katrina today. I am really impressed with the condition of the "new" A-4 in your boat. This A-4 community is totally awesome.

I'll take lots of pics when I attempt my FWC...yours appears so pristine on the inside & outside that it might last another 50 years if you converted it to FWC.

Hope to see you in Cambridge this summer sometime. If you are ever in Solomons, give me a shout!

It was nice to meet you too.
Good times looking over an A4 with a beer in hand!
Make sure to post those photos so I see how you do the FWC

We have made our final destination early this afternoon to Cambridge MD. and watched as Hanley made his way north... Safe trip and God Speed our dear friend
