Thanks to all of you.

Sometime in the next few hours, post #20,000 will appear on this forum. Today, new member #3,900 registered.

We launched the Moyer Marine Atomic 4 Community Forum in October of 2004. It has fulfilled our dreams and wishes beyond anything we might have imagined. Thanks to all of you who have taken the time to contribute your problems, thoughts, comments, pictures, recommendations, experiences, and whatever.

As our Senior Members will attest, it's all about the content, and we are truly blessed.

Almost there Bill! I am sure I'll find something to blabber on about to surpass 20,000 total tonight!

I can also assure you that there is no way my A-4 would be running without the info I have absorbed from this forum!

Thanks for helping to keep the old girls ticking!

I think the praise goes both ways. The quality of this forum is due in no small part to the skill, hard work and improvements you and the others at MMI have made. Thank you. Dan S/V Marian Claire

Thank's from "Kari On"

I can honestly say that if it hadn't been for Don's endeavor to lengthen the lives of our A4's I would most likely have given up and gone to the diesel side.
Here's hoping that this magical site will be around for a long, long time to serve as a source of information, encouragement and parts for all of us.
Best Regards, Tom

Would have gone diesel

We bought the boat last year and as I get ready to do my first Spring start up I know I would not have been here if not for this site. We considered converting to electric, but who wants to dump $2000 into batteries every 5 years? Going diesel was considered but trading one form of fuel for another did not make sense. But this site has given me hope I can keep er going. Thanks to Dan and all who have responded. So whether you keep your fingers crossed, throw salt over your shoulder or pray do one for me as I hit the starter.

When I bought my boat the price was good enough that I felt it had a "built-in" budget to re-power to a diesel.
Then the water pump went within the first week and I found this wonderful site.
The knowledge, sharing and expertise is unmatched. It's a goldmine.
I wouldn't part with that wonderful little beast now for anything!

Thank you Don, Brenda, Bill, Ken and everyone else who makes this such a great service to the A4 and sailing community worldwide.

Thumbs up Wow

Congratulations on a wonderful achievement and a fabulous site. About the only thing I would wish is that I would have found it sooner. I have been working on engines most of my life and I have picked up a few things on the site that have helped me with my ole' 40 year old A-4 and she's still a ticking.

Thanx especially to Don and the rest of the crew for their willingness to offer excellent advise for A-4 owner mechanics and "wanna-be's". You Guys Rock

Thanks to you guys! When I bought my boat complete with a great running Atomic 4 I knew nothing about inboard engines of any kind. I figured I should educate myself while the motor was in great shape so that I could deal with things as they would invariably pop up on a 34 year old motor. That is where this forum became invaluable. It has also helped me make several improvements to the engine. I have recommended it to every A4 owner I have run into since then. I have also gone from offering more information than I am seeking - crazy how much I have learned here! I'm sure I'll have more questions and advice for the forum down the line. For us folks who like tinkering on boats and their accordant systems, this forum is a fun place to spend some time - at least it stimulates my brain much more than Facebook!

My Turn

As previously stated ad nauseum, I'm an old school sort and accordingly I'm pretty wary of new fangled stuff - like online discussion forums. This group was my first entry into the arena so I didn't know J.S. about protocol, chat abbreviations, emoticons and the like. I'm now involved in 3 boating related forums so I can compare this site to the other two.

The previous accolades are all well deserved, A4 information is excellent and the Don's input is incredibly generous. One thing I've noticed that hasn't yet been mentioned is that this forum is articulate. Bill has set the bar high and we're all better for it. I look forward to the next post no matter who writes it, they're all good.

My thanks to the Moyer Marine family including all fellow listmates.

P.S., to rekindle a phrase I used a few months ago, those other 2 sites are ugly stepsisters compared the MM Community.

In my experience this site and Don's contributions to the A4 community form the most valuable body of unique information I've used on the internet.

Seriously - plenty of the rest of the stuff on the internet is cool, but most of it is not that valuable, or exists in other forms. The funneling of A4 owners and expertise onto this site (the parts side, and the forum) is extremely valuable and does not exist anywhere else.

So, twenty thousand thank yous, Don and Bill and the rest of the forum community!

I will just add my thanks to Don, Brenda, Ken, Bill for all of the helps you provided to me over the years. It's hard to believe my A4 is still running, no double all the credit goes to you four.

One thing I would like to suggest is to bring back Miss of Month pageantry. I always enjoyed the beautiful restoration works others have done.

This pretty much sums up my thoughts too. Thanks all. I did a fairly good job of avoiding big mistakes because of this forum.

Shawn, look at your posts. You alone count for nearly 1/20th of the entrys.
Is that good or bad?

Cheers all,

Me Too...

My thanks too! As an infrequent member I can say that over the past 5 years that I have owned my sailboat I have saved literally thousands of dollars by being able to make my own repairs. Thank you Don, Ken and all of the others who have made this a viable and useful site for us A4 owners!

Congratulations on this milestone and keep up the good work.

PS...I have just finished a complete major rebuild and I am going to make a post with before/after photos very soon.

I frequent some other forums too, but reviving this motor from its 20 year snooze has been a great challenge that has been the most rewarding for me of all the boat projects.

I hang out over at SBO some, but I only have a few posts there, the Catalina 30 Yahoo Group is archaic, but it is the only real good place to access to other C-30 owners, even if half of them don't seem to have a "clew".

Over on Sailing Anarchy I have 4,295 posts, but I've been a member there since 2005.

I have been comparably tame over here, but quite honestly (as Neil mentioned), this forum is much more stimulating.

Thanks to All of You Guys!

I don't post often...spend most of my time just reading threads, as i have little to ofer, but lots to learn....... however I have learned how to diagnose a bad coil

Thanks not only to Ken and his Team, but to the numerous contributors that make this such a valuable tool for those of us that just " lurk", and learn!

Cheers,
Jimmy

Sing praises for MMI

Without MMI it would be a virtual desert when searching the internet for replacement parts for our A4s.

Sure, I could find some parts at a NAPA store or equivalent but no sales clerk at a NAPA store would know anything about a flat head 4, 4 stroke engine like the A4. I tell them I own a tractor if they ask. NAPA would not be able to get me a new head for my A4 though and MMI can supply you with all the parts to build a brand new A4 engine now.

This forum is also a godsend thanks to MMI and all of the contributors, some of whom are some pretty heavy weight motor heads with way more knowledge than I possess (you know who you are). There are even female mechanics who check in here so it is thankfully not entirely a boys club.

I think the thing that sets MMI apart from most vendors I use for boating products these days is that you can actually talk to a real human on the phone; and not just some underling. I have spoken to Ken, don and probably Brenda at one time or another and always been amazed at the depth of knowledge these folks possess, not to mention patience.

Just another satisfied customer and fan.

Not as blessed as we are. The one stop shopping for Atomic 4 insight, troubleshooting, maintenance, parts...as well as general boat maintenance. The dreams fulfilled were of those who want to skipper their own boat, with the luxury of being Chief Engineer as well. I love this place!!!!

Civility

In the impersonal web world, it is so easy to snipe at others - who are faceless posts at the other end.

What is so impressive about this site is the degree of civility and decorum. New members are heartily welcomed. Senior members are revered for their wisdom. Opinions are welcomed and not criticized.

Don and Ken set the tone from the beginning and you the members carry that torch.

Some of you may not know how bad A4 ownership could be back in the day. Our first A4 powered boat was a Pearson 30 bought new in 1973. Nothing ever went wrong with that engine and we really didn't think much about it. It was an engine, it started every time, and we changed the oil twice a year. The next boat likewise the engine pretty much needed no attention for many years. That boat, bought in 1977, is the one we still have. Fast forward to the late 80s/early 90s and the engine has thousands of hours, much in saltwater, and is anything but reliable. NO ONE wanted to work on it. Any shop that came near it took one look and said "REPLACE WITH DIESEL" as the only possible repair option. I finally gave in at one shop and they hauled a diesel down to the boat, took some measurements, said it wouldn't fit, and left
Anyway NOW we have support and parts beyond my wildest dreams in 1990
* willing and able marine mechanics for A4s are still hard to find though.
