    Painting technique

    Hello,

I am about to start painting engine elements (manifold, starter etc...) and the engine itself. Can anyone tell me if I should be painting the areas where gaskets will sit or is it preferable to mask them off to leave bare metal for the seal.

    Thank you,
    Kelly

    painting

    Bonjour,
I just finished painted my engine and had masked off the bare metal parts where the gaskets would go. Put everything back together, ran engine and had no leaks. My vote goes to masking off.

      Thanks Tom.

The consensus over on the Sailnet A4 list seems to be the same. I'll be masking...

I don't remember seeing a new part where mating surfaces were painted.

I think you got it right, Kelly.
