Fitting problem with Moyer SS standpipe
Greetings,
I have a 1965 Columbia 29....owned now for 31 years. This is the third time my iron-steel standpipe exhaust has corroded/rusted to a point that I must weld up a new one. BUT>>>>I just saw and ordered a Moyer SS one( "that fits a Tartan"). My problem is that my standpipe must "lean forward" a few degrees to clear the bulkhead above the engine. My options seem to be: 1) Using a 90 degree ss elbow which will screw in to both the exhaust plate on the manifold..and the new SS stands pipe, cut it in two...machine off a 3 degrees surface and re-weld it. 2) Using a new Moyer exhaust flange which mounts to the manifold, machine a 3 degree face on the side which mates with the manifold, then counter drill the mounting holes at 3 degrees. Comments from anyone experiencing this same "fit issue"? Suggestions? Thanks!!! |

Each boat will have different fit issues.
My T30 had the riser/mixing can, which I liked. The can had a particular spot where it wanted to be. I came off the fwd end of the manifold with a piece of pipe (A). Next was a 45 elbow (which brought the run towards centerline) attached to pipe (B). The elbow was adjusted so that pipe (B) was horizontal. Finally a 90 elbow turned the run vertical. A union was necessary to assemble things. By varying the length of pipes A and B, I could put the centerline of the can where I wanted it, vertical, and parallel to the bulkhead. Your pipe run may need a few more fittings to give it the flexibility you want. |
