    I have to test this personally to confirm, but others here that have installed the same coil have tested it and say it has a resistance of 3.5 ohms.

    Again the only reason I did not go with MMI was that I have friends in town this weekend and needed the boat running with some confidence that I was not going to have any surprises. I'm up in Canada.

      Ok. IF it is under 4Ω then you'll need an external resistor.

      I understand and we've all been there.
      Just wanted to be sure you eventually do it up right or you're in for another failure downstream.
      AND usually at the worst possible time too.

        I have always had "points" on my early model A4 with "prestolite" distributor and when I have needed a coil quickly it has been NAPA IC14 [liquid filled] about $40. Tests out @ 4 ohms. After multiple seasons [5+] it might read 4.5 - 4.6 and I change it since my understanding is 4.5 is high end limit. No external resistor needed.
