    I finally saw it

I decided to take a sunset cruise this evening and to my great pleasure I finally saw it. I've tried for decades since I first learned of its existence but up until tonight it has eluded me. Cross one off the bucket list.

    The green flash:

Here are a few pictures. The last one is of the Angel's Gate lighthouse, Point Fermin (mainland) on the right, Catalina West End on the left.

That sun drops out pretty quick once on the ocean's horizon. Puts it in perspective just how quickly this ball we are riding is actually spinning. When I was at sea on ships I loved to watch sunsets...and of course just as it goes, the green flash. Atmospheric conditions have to be right and some are more brilliant than others but one look at your pics and you had it. Awesome!

My very first experience at sea was on a large ship, on the bridge...everyone was commenting on the sunset and I ran to get my camera to take video. I bolted to my cabin, grabbed the camera, hustled back up and the sun had set. I was gone in about a minute.

        Very nice!

The cruise ship reminds me of working for Norwegian Cruise Lines out of San Pedro and the twice weekly stop over at Catalina (early '90s). Loved watching the sun set there on the left Coast.

Well Greg, it should have. That was in fact NCL (Norwegian Cruise Lines).
