RB, Welcome !! As you have seen lots of good people here with lots of knowledge that are here to help and share what they have learned.
My only add would be careful trying to get it started with the water intake open. If you are cranking the motor over with the water in take open and its not starting you can get your self in trouble as the motor needs to run to blow the water out the exhaust.
