Engine shutdown when choke closed (pushedin)

I have a 1979 C&C34. I installed a new carburetor from Moyer two years ago. I have sailed only 5 times this season. Three weeks ago when I started the engine she continually shutdown after running for a few seconds. I removed the carburetor and cleaned it (or so I thought). A few days later I took the boat out and after motoring for about 15 minutes she shutdown and would not restart. A few days later she started with no problem. I did not go out. Now, about a week later I am experiencing another issue. Once she starts if I close (push in) the choke the engine shuts down. As long as the choke is out she’ll run. How can I resolve this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Think I figured it out

Did my due diligence and read the threads on this topic. So, I thoroughly cleaned the carburetor and added chevron Techron fuel cleaner. Too late in my day to go out but she’s running normally and much smoother. It’ll probably be another week before I get back to the boat. Hopefully all issues were resolved.

What do you know about the quality of the fuel?

What filters do you have in place, and where?

        Bill's questions are good ones.

You have cleaned your carburetor and added some fuel treatment and your engine is running better.

Where did the KRAP come from and is there more of it?

The dirty carburetor is the symptom. Cleaning it is of course necessary but perhaps not sufficient.

I had an identical issue to yours - engine would only run with full choke - and traced the problem ultimately to a dirty fuel tank.

        Hope that helps,

        Peter

Could be to little gas or to much unregulated air. Did the gasket between the carb and the manifold get installed?
