No, the roller is not part of the adjustment. To hold the nut in place there's supposed to be a spring steel hairpin clip that rides against two flats on the adjustment nut. Please take a close look at the picture in the MMI manual that I referenced previously. The roller is identified in the picture. The nut locking clip can be seen in this post.
