Fuel Pump Valve Retention Clip

I rebuilt my fuel pump this past weekend using your kit and could have used a valve retention clip (or whatever it's called). When I unscrewed screw holding the clip, the clip was broken in half and...

Knocking / Runs Rough

Over the last few weeks, I have been pulling the valves and replacing their springs because of a sticking exhaust valve in #2 cylinder. I finished up last Sunday and the engine was running fine.

Good Guy Wanted in San Diego

Does anyone know of a reasonable A4 mechanic in the San Diego Bay area? I've gotten tired of working on this engine more than sailing the boat.

The last mechanic I contacted wants $90.00 per hour...

I have the Autolite 437s also, but I gapped them at .035 as specified in all of the A4 literature. Should I have gapped them at .025? If so, why?

Thanks,
Charles

Part Deux

Here's the latest in the saga. After freeing the #2 cylinder's stuck exhaust valve while I had the head off, I thought that all would be well. Fooled me!!

The valve became stuck again a week...

It's Alive!!

I finally got the beast running. The problem was a rusted out manifold that was allowing water into the #1 and #2 cylinders. The water intrusion also caused the #2 cylinder's exhaust valve to...

The Saga Continues

Friday, I played hooky from work and went to work on the boat. I finally realized that I may have water entering the front two cylinders, in spite of good compression tests.

I got the bright idea...

I just pulled my head off today and it came off rather easily. Before doing it, I sprayed the head nuts with WD-40, let them soak for a little while, and they came right off. I don't know whether...

At Wits' End

Here's my tale of woe:

My engine was running fine until about three weeks ago when upon starting it, it barely ran. I had to have the throttle half way open to get it to continue to run. If I...

Thanks for the responses. I don't have an electric fuel pump. Does the mechanical pump make noise? I'm going to try to look into the valve cover next weekend. I'm awaiting gaskets and tools from...

Clicking Sound

Ever since I got my boat last March, I have had an annoying clicking sound that is most noticeable at idle speed. The sound either becomes too rapid or goes away at higher revs; and, after running...
