muffler for T34

I have a T30 and the standpipe muffler leaked. Some "butcher" replaced it with a Volvo waterlift muffler by stuffing it and ruining access. I recently replaced it with Don Moyer's stainless steel...

T fitting in water intake

All these discussions about the T fitting in the water intake assume that when drawing in the acid or anti freeze solution from a bucket, that the thermostat is open thereby allowing the liquid from...

prop shaft grounding

I guess I never questioned how far from anything critical to put the sliding ground connection, just seems natural to get it away from something critical like the stuffing box. I have no idea how...

grounding prop shaft

Not with a wire, but I was told by a power boater friend that a thin sheet of copper brushing against the shaft with tension provided by its "springiness" works OK. I do not see the problem as long...

Temperature Gauge sending unit

Reply to Steve. I am about ready to replace the temperature sending unit and install that three way valve to convert to the flushing system that you desciribed some time ago. I had asked at that...

additional blower switch

I also wanted to be able to turn off the blower from the cockpit to make sure I do not leave the blower on and run down the battery. I used two switches in series so I ran a set or wires from the...

new hope to learn and contribute

Try isolating whether the problem is electrical or fuel, to me it sounds electrical since you have to wait a few minutes to restart. Check coil, could be thermally induced short and it cools after a...

first post

I agree about the prop problem. Since a 35 foot boat must be pretty close to the limit for an A4, getting the most efficiency from the prop is very important and I also agree that 2000 rpm is...

normal (?) exhuast smoke

I get similar smoke out of my A4 but usually is seems to increase with the humidity so maybe some of it is condensation. Monitor the oil consumption but I did not notice any.

mystery shutdown

Is the color and strength of the spark the same before you start the engine and after it dies? Sounds like ignition problem.

myth busters

I tend to agree with you but a clear graph of "corrosion" vesus temperature sure would be nice, but I cannot think of a good and easy method to measure the corrosion. My thinking is that even if the...

myth busters

These discussion are great, puts the whole business of corrosion in raw water cooled engines on a solid basis, especially the use of muriatic (hydrochloric) acid as a yearly flush.

But I still...

Gas shut off valve replacement

there are two kinds of teflon tape at least that I know of, white for liquids and yellow for gas (not to be confused with gasoline). The yellow is thicker and meant for high pressure gas...

life span of water lift muffler

On my Tartan 30, I had the original copper standpipe water lift unit replaced with a Volvo unit but it was a very poor fit and restricted access. I later replaced that with Don's stainless steel...

beautiful job. One question, I notice that you have installed a tee in the front of the block where the temperature sensor is. I assume one port of the tee is for the temperature sensor, what is the...
