Wont rev over 1800rpm under load

I've had two other things happen that created the same conditions.

When I was new to my boat, I changed the spark plugs and the A4 ran terribly. Found that one of the plugs was not seated well,...

Thanks everyone! Glad to report that the last bolt broke free last night.

I gave up on unthreading the exhaust pipe and just cut if off near the manifold flange so I could get sockets on the...

Unseizing techniques

Due to a leaking muffler and exhaust pipe, I am replacing my hot section and muffler. Cutting the hose between the hot section and muffler, and removing the manifold from the engine were easy. But,...

Oil Change Kit

Jerry,
Thanks! Measure twice; cut once - the old carpenter's rule. Fortunately, I have the carb and fuel pump off the engine for rebuilds, so that will make the install easier. Hoping to be back...

Carb Cleaning Advise

For the first time, I tore apart my carb for cleaning, following the instructions in Don's manual. Of course, when I got to the idle jet and the admonition to be careful not to mess it up, I found...

Backfire Flame Control

We had our C30 inspected by the US Power Squadron last spring. My wife was at the inspection, in my absence, and she described a very detailed inspection. They had no issue with the stock flame...

A Bit of Bad Luck

Doug,
I don't want to be insulting, but it sounds like you may be new to the marine engine world. As you are turning over the engine repeatedly, keep your raw water thruhull closed so that you...

Secondary Fuel Filter

I have installed the MM kit between the mechanical fuel pump and the carb too. The first polishing filter I installed didn't last too long, less than a season, before it got plugged up. But, the...

Thottle Assembly / Handle

Teleflex bought Morse a while back. They sell lots of throttle and transmission cables and assemblies, so you might find something from them. I've received good support fom the folks at Hamilton...

Sailing in forward, reverse or neutral

There is an active discussion on the Catalina 30 list about whether to sail with the engine in gear or not, and which gear. General agreement is that you should not sail in neutral because of the...

Engine runs at high rpm when throttle

Is it possible that you popped the engine end of the throttle cable out of the bulkhead fitting? Last year a friend overzealously shifted into forward and pushed the end of the clutch cable right...

Catalina 30 A4 exhaust rebuild

Shawn,
Nice clean solution. What is the hot section plumbed to? That doesn't look like the water lift mufflers that I'm familiar with, but it has a lower profile that probably is superior to the...

Question Catalina 30 A4 exhaust rebuild

Well, the tiny leak in the hose between the hot section and the water lift muffle has become a stream, in spite of the 5200 slobbered all over. I suspect the muffler is a big part of the problem and...

overheating-smoke from ignition?
